Distractions

My eyes fall through cracks
of scorched pavement during
suburban summer.

My lungs drift off to sea
hoping for salt to gently
cover them with time.

My teeth rise like clouds
touching the sun with
exposed roots

My heart swells like
the belly of the beast,
full from consuming.
